I have just heard that next month (May 2008) in the UK all psychics, mediums and spiritualists will be classed as “Traders” even if they don’t charge a fee. To top it all, displaying a disclaimer that states our work is “for entertainment purposes only” is most likely not enough either.
I am greeting this new law with understanding but also anger. Anybody who has a “bad reading”, “inaccurate reading” or given information that does not come true could now sue their psychic under this new Law.
Although I can appreciate that probably 80 percent of psychics out there are fakes and this is good way to weed out the rip offs, unfortunately, this is also concerning and affecting those of us who work honestly with our gifts.
We all know that readings and information are usually for the “here and now” and if the client stays on the path they are then what we predict will most likely happen .. however … most people do NOT stay on their path, which is WHY they come to you in the first place!!
We, who work with clients and give readings in any form know for a fact you don’t just give a reading, you provide advice and even life coaching to put them on the right path and to enhance their quality of life.
I am assuming this is also relevant for spellwork, craftwork and magick as well - if it isn’t yet, it soon will be. I have now had to add the disclaimer prominently on my website. This does not mean I have lost my faith in what I provide/see/believe, it means that I am protected, in case *Gods forbid*, that if I ever encounter a client who may not be 100 percent satisfied with what I say or do, cannot sue me under this new ruling.
I provide what I provide to help people. I never lead people into false beliefs or hopes and I am honest and true at all times of what I feel and what I believe to be sincere.
However, at the end of the day I am only human and I sincerely hope this law does not turn into a Millennium witch hunt!

I just wanted to comment about this insane new law that’s got the potential to trash those of us in this business who are legitimate. I don’t know that 80% of the people who claim to be psychics are fraudulent but certainly, there are many and they should be stopped.
However, it’s pretty much impossible to prove a negative. How do you prove that something didn’t happen?? How can we prove we are NOT fraudulent? I’m trying hard to remember the Law of Attraction and not put any fear into this situation because I wouldn’t want to attract the thing I fear (i.e. being sued by some moron who pretends he/she is horribly upset by my reading or claims that I’m a fraud).
The law is so unfair. Because of the nature of our work, we haven’t got any paperwork or degrees behind us to verify our abilities. That makes us easy prey, sitting ducks. Yet solicitors, doctors, business people in general can stick it to people in a big way, despite their formal training, despite any codes of conduct that might be in place for specific professions and they get off with slaps on the wrist (if that).
Currently, I’m involved in a couple of situations like that, trying to make professionals take responsibility for the very unprofessional way they’ve treated me but I’m not getting very far. There is concern that vulnerable people are being exploited in our business, but I can tell you from too much personal experience that solicitors and other business people have taken advantage of me whilst I was in very vulnerable situations and they seem not to have to be made accountable for that. I’ve lost a lot of money and have been terribly emotionally upset due to the nature of the particular issues, yet there is no consequence for those people.
And here I am, doing my best to listen to Spirit and be their conduit for a lot of hope and healing, being highly respectful of everyone who needs my help, and I am now supposed to live in fear of doing my job and having some idiot decide to rake me over the coals just because he can…
This world is getting more insane by the minute. £4,000 being given to heroin addicts who have to go cold turkey in jail because it violates their human rights??? What about the rights of people they were violating to end up in jail in the first place? Doesn’t the government think these people will just get out of jail and do something to be put right back in for a while so they can get another £4,000 to spend on drugs when they get out again??
Professionals and business people in positions of authority and trust seem to have lots of protection but what about legitimate psychics and mediums?? I’ve had this gift since I was a child and have brought comfort and healing to many because of the messages that are passed along from Spirit. No one has ever been hurt by those messages; they are always messages of love. It’s just not right that we should have to prove ourselves to be legitimate. It’s easier to prove a fraud is a fraud, but as I said, how do you prove something that isn’t? If it “isn’t” - if it doesn’t exist, there is no evidence of any kind!!
I will rely heavily on my belief that Spirit will guide and protect me, since they have led me to do this work and it is THEIR work, not mine - so if they want me to do it, they must keep me safe. I will also rely on my belief about the Law of Attraction and I will keep seeing myself as being protected and unharmed by this ridiculous new law.
I hope that none of the legitimate psychics/mediums will be harmed in any way because of the new law. Doing this work is an honour, very humbling, extremely important, and a labour of the purest kind of love. There shouldn’t be anything to tarnish it or bring fear into it.
